Ike, Friend or Foe?
While I do not want to see anyone hurt by Ike, the latest hurricane to hit in the American south, I am glad it is hitting where it has. Right where the majority of America’s oil refineries are. As such, those refineries have had to closed down, and gas prices have risen, at least around here, by almost a dollar in the last three days. Anyone who can put two and two together can clearly see that even if America were to drill in Alaska or drill off-shore, the pain at the pump would not be eased. Our problem is not our dependence on foreign oil, but rather our dependence on oil in general. The US has put all of its eggs in one basket here. Just like you need to diversify your stock portfolio, the US needs to diversify its energy portfolio. Solar, wind, geothermal, hydrogen, bio-fuels, etc. It is time for the American people to take a stand, a stand against the oil companies whose deep pockets have kept our government from diversifying.
