Indy

My cousin Chris is getting married today, and I drove out to Indianapolis yesterday afternoon, so that I wouldn’t have to get up super early and drive to make a 1pm wedding in a city I’ve never driven in.  The drive out was great, no troubles.  I got to the hotel around 4:30pm, ordered myself a pizza, and just chilled out.

Here it is Saturday morning, I’ve just gotten up, showered, put my shirt and tie on, and my dad calls.  Its about 11am.  I explain to him that the directions I gave him are to the hotel and not the church, and so I plan to meet him at the hotel, and we will drive from there.  The wedding is about 2 hours away, and I ask him how far out is he.  And he says he is just getting on the highway near our house (which is 4hours from here)!  So I’m all like, yeah you aren’t going to make the 1pm wedding, when he says that the wedding doesn’t start till 5pm.  What!?!  So I gave my mom a call, it was she who said that the wedding started at 1pm, and sure enough the wedding starts at 5.  This really pisses me off.  That was the whole reason to get a hotel room the night before, because I thought it started at 1.

 I’m going back to bed.

Winter Blunderland

On Thursday of last week (November 30th), there was a huge winter storm in the Midwestern US.  That evening, it took me an hour and a half to get home (I work 15 miles from work).  That evening, the power went out at my place around 8:30pm.  It is now Tuesday December 5th, around midnight, and the power at my place is still out.  I have been checking every few hours (my answering machine will pick up with the power is back on).  So its been 4 days without power at my place.  Luckily I have internet at work, and in the hotel I’m staying at.

On Saturday evening, according to the Ameren UE website, there were 4000 people without power in my zip code.   On Sunday morning, there were 4500 people in my zip code without power.  Thats right.  When I checked this afternoon, 4900 people are without power in my zip code.  Now I keep hearing reports on the news that more and more people are having their power restored, but in the past 4 days, they’ve managed to increase the number of people without power in my town.  WTF!!?!

On Friday, when I woke up, there was a tree down on my driveway, and there was really no way that I could get to work.  Today when I got back in, I found out that almost no one in my group showed up for work on Friday.  We all have similar stories, but the powers that be decided that that day should be recorded as a personal day, a vacation day.  I really shouldn’t complain, because I haven’t really taken much of my allotted vacation, but sitting at home in a house with no power, where you can’t leave is not vacation.  I would honestly have rather been at work.
