Chicago Day 2

On my way back, I stopped at a small italian cafe for lunch. Now I’m not normally the one to say something (yeah right), but the waitresses were fucking hot. It was like being at a Hooters, but the waitresses here weren’t dog ugly.

I was up by 8 this morning, but didn’t make it out the door till 10:30. Last night when I was walking back to the hotel with Michelle, she had mentioned that I should go down a particular street to get to Navy Pier. I started out heading in that direction, but it wasn’t till I was 2 blocks west and one block north that I realized that Navy Pier is actually south west of my hotel. When I made it to Navy Pier I was pretty much dead. My “scenic route” to the Pier pushed the distance up to about a mile, which in dress shoes sucked royal. I sat down right outside Navy Pier for a while to cool my dogs, and cool off a bit. You always hear about the pigeons (more about that later) but the squirrels are the same way. So there are all these damn squirrels climbing around in this apple tree, under which a lot of people were sitting. As you can imagine, people kept being hit with apples falling from the tree. I had to watch that for a while.

I walked in and asked at the information desk where the job fair was and the lady said it was in the back, to just go straight through. Now last time I was at Navy Pier I had only seen the front part. Maybe it wasn’t open before or something, but when I was there previously it was only an area with some shops and restaurants, and then some garden thing. Later in the evening, when I was telling Michelle this story she said that that part was the only part of Navy Pier she had ever seen there either, which I find odd since she lives in Chicago.

The job fair, as it turns out, was at the complete other end of the pier. After the front part, there is a food court, and then some little stores that reminded me of a street market type thing. After all of this, I saw a sign about the fair, and was relieved. But I wasn’t there yet.

Apparently there is a stained glass window museum at Navy Pier, that I had to walk through on my way to the fair. After the museum is just nothing. It is a long winding hallway. At the end of the hallway, I had to go up 2 flights of stairs, down another hallway, until I finally got there. That said, it took a total of about 20 minutes to walk from the front of the pier to the job fair.

The job fair was supposed to be a technology job fair, and being in one of the biggest cities in the country, I guessed that there would be a number of companies. Wrong. There were about 20 companies there, maybe, and of them all but 4 were sales related. I was there maybe 30 minutes. There were refreshments at the fair, but by the time I was done, they were out of water. Not suprising as the air conditioning was not on, and as a result quite warm. So I walked all the way back through the pier.

On my way back, I stopped at a small italian cafe for lunch. Now I’m not normally the one to say something, but the waitresses were fucking hot. It was like being at a Hooters, but the waitresses here weren’t dog ugly.

Michelle called at about 3 and unfortunately tickets to the Second City Mainstage were sold out. Since I had missed my aunt’s birthday, I decided to head over there for dinner. My aunt lives on Lake Shore Drive, and after a few quick stops on Michigan Ave, it took about 20 minutes to walk up there. My aunt was sending me down to the commisary to pick up some things for dinner, when Michelle called again. My aunt had me invite her over; we ended up having broasted chicken and salad for dinner. It was quite good.

As it turned out, Michelle was able to get tickets to Second City ETC, which is not as good as Mainstage, but was good none the less. Michelle’s friend Rachel met us there, and afterward gave me a ride back to my hotel.

I get up to my hotel room, and neither of the keys work in the door. I didn’t have them near any credit cards, and they weren’t near my phone either. It’s pretty fucking embarrassing to have to go back downstairs to have them recode the door keys.

Tomorrow I will be heading back home :( If I time it right, I might make it to Bloomington around noon. Maybe I’ll take Amy to lunch again.
